Is this any better? I’m sorry, I am trying to wean myself off of all of the Microsoft suite stuff, and LibreOffice doesn’t seem to play well with the forum post interface, or I don’t know how to make it do so.
Thank you for the suggestion! If this doesn’t work, I guess I will retype the whole thing in a new post.
EDIT: Copied from the PDF file:
Laptop or Desktop?
I’ve used a powerful laptop connected to a larger monitor for a few years, now. I’m comfortable with fiddling
internally with computer components, though, and I think I would prefer a desktop machine this time maybe
opting for a not-so-fancy spec and upgrading as some of the costs moderate in price.
My budget for the new computer is:
I would like to keep it between about $1000 and $1500, surely closer to the low limit would please me more
than the high end.
What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games,
etc)?
Lots of web research and idle browsing and lots of PC single-player gaming (Steam games and Minecraft
mostly). Email, some home organizing and social activities but not a lot. I don’t enjoy watching movies on a
small screen, though I enjoy Twitch streams and YouTube videos often.
What software do you intend on using on the computer?
Windows, Malwarebytes antivirus, LibreOffice office suite, Firefox and Thunderbird from Mozilla, Steam,
Minecraft and some game modifications, mostly.
Do you play games? If so, what type of games?
I love sandbox games – Minecraft premier among those. Also kind of like other adventure and open world
games like No Man’s Sky, The Elder Scrolls and such. I really would like to use shaders (appearance enhancing
add-ons) in Minecraft without severely detracting from playability. My laptop video options are very limiting
in that respect – NVIDIA has ended support for the graphics chip and I am relying on the onboard Intel
graphics these days, ho hum.
Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program
when you are done using it?
I don’t go overboard multi-tasking, but sometimes I will wind up with several apps running. More often I open
a lot of tabs in web browsers.
Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer?
Not at all. We have a couple of networked storage devices so they get stored there.
